As Frank Zappa said: “So many books, so little time”. Or, equally astute, as Groucho Marx pointed out: “Outside of a dog, a book is man’s best friend. Inside of a dog it’s too dark to read.”
Here at Astley Media we love books. We devour them in the light and the dark. Improving our knowledge is built into our culture, and reading and reflecting is one great way of doing that. That’s why we have our own library here at Northernhay Place in Exeter city centre. Business, marketing, PR, design and technology of course, but let’s not forget cooking, adventures, thrillers, fantasy, sci-fi – we all have our own interests and favourites!
We’d love to share some of them with you and so are delighted to invite you to join the Astley Media Book Club. Borrow books from our library and look out for our regular blogs to whet your appetite on recommended great reads – and then share yours. If you are on Pinterest, follow our board here.
Please do get in touch with your thoughts – top five lists please and recommended favourite reads that you’d like to share with us.
Our first recommendation is Do the Work, by author, novelist, and screenwriter Steven Pressfield. So why do we urge you to pick up a copy?
This is a rallying cry calling on its readers to knuckle down, get on with what they are doing and resist the urge to wait for perfection – because it rarely comes. In this refreshing and inspiring book, Steven Pressfield tells us it’s okay to make mistakes (not all the time) and that our art is a creative process that we sometimes have to kick out of the nest. Filled with anecdotes and useful tips, this is a must read for procrastinators or those suffering ‘writer’s’ block’.
