When lockdown came into force, like many people, BBC Match Of The Day commentatorJohn Roder found himself redundant.

As a self-employed worker, his income stream dried up and the job he loves was, for a while, non-existent.

But he used the opportunity to learn a new skill and start a business.

When football resumed, John was drafted back into the Match Of The Day commentary team and watched his last game on Sunday (26th July).

We caught up with him just before the season-end for one of our Astley Media #ProjectPositivity webcasts.

He told us about his new ventures, the secret to Sheffield United’s success, his love for Devon, where he lives, the gaffes he’d rather forget and the experience of commentating in empty stadiums.
