Intern Diaries: Vicky Payne
Vicky recently completed a 6 week internship at Astley Media after contacting us, keen to gain experience in PR and Marketing. Here, she tells us how she found the experience…
I am an ancient history graduate pursuing a career in the world of marketing. Since graduating I have gained an abundance of transferable and useful work experience, which did help me with my job search, but after countless applications and a handful of interviews I felt I needed to gain more specific experience in a marketing environment. I knew that hands on experience as an intern would allow me to gain useful insights, new knowledge and expand my skills.
Astley Media took me in as an intern and from day one I hit the ground running and became exposed to all aspects of life in an agency. I worked on current campaigns and events, undertook research, drafted press releases, made calls and enquiries, organised competitions and so much more. Each day was different and exciting, with new tasks and work on my desk regularly. I identified the areas of the business that interested me the most – marketing, social media and campaign work – acquiring experience and knowledge in these areas. My internship not only allowed me to gain insight, into working on marketing and PR briefs for clients, but I also gained experience in a fast paced and dynamic environment, managing my work load whilst juggling new tasks and working to upcoming deadlines.
The team at Astley media welcomed me from the start, gave advice, mentored me and provided much laughter; it was truly a great learning experience as well as an enjoyable one. Looking forward, I have now been offered and accepted my first graduate job in digital marketing in London. I am now, however, a part of the Astley Media alumni and will definitely pop into the office whenever I come back home to Devon.
