Last impressions count just as much as the first

I met the CEO of a very large company at an event over the weekend.
He’s a big cheese – the head of a family firm that has been operating for five generations, employing 180 staff and supplying customers across the globe.
We had an interesting chat which lasted for no more than 20 minutes before he had to leave to catch a train.
But before he did, he uttered something that I found quite extraordinary.
He reached for his business card, handed it to me and said: “If there is ever anything I can do to help you, please let me know.”
It was an offer delivered so casually that it wasn’t until he had gone that the words actually sunk in.
Not the usual: “We must have a beer some time or pop in and have coffee.”
And he’d only known me for 20 minutes.
Read what he said again.
“If there is ever anything I can do to help you, please let me know.”
I meet hundreds of people every year and exchange a draw full of business cards but never remember what was said.
They say first impressions count. I’m now of the opinion that last ones do too…
