Intern Diary: Aisha O'connor
Aisha recently completed a 9-week internship at Astley Media after contacting us, keen to increase her experience in PR and Marketing. Here, she tells us all about her experience…
I am a third year Marketing undergraduate at Bournemouth University pursuing a career in PR & Marketing. Whilst completing my degree I wanted to gain as much work experience as possible to benefit me when searching for my graduate job. I am currently on my placement year and after completing my mandatory placement within the Affiliate Marketing sector I decided I wanted to get
a feel for agency life.
I have been interning at AM for two months now and it has been packed full of heaps of new experiences for me. I have learnt how to use lots of new software including; Hootsuite (social media scheduling platform), MailChimp (email marketing campaigns), Wix (website creation) and Canva (graphic design). I have been exposed to the world of social media marketing, creating content for several accounts across all platforms. The social media content created has had a noticeable impact increasing page likes, improving post engagement and reach.
Throughout my time at AM I have been heavily involved with Fast Track to Growth. FT2G is a free growth membership service for Devon businesses. The annual FT2G Growth Day was held at Rockbeare manor on April 18th and over 130 business people were in attendance, making it the biggest Growth Day yet. The day was packed full of 19 workshops and over 200 1-1 sessions. I assisted in everything from creating social media content and designing resources to welcoming guests and manning the information desk. It was great to be involved with the whole process from start to finish and seeing how everything came together to make a great day for all in attendance.
I attended multiple networking events including the South West Business Expo. There were over 2000 business people in attendance from across the south-west making the day a great opportunity to meet key business contacts. At the expo, I manned the AM stand to promote both AM services and the Fast Track to Growth programme. As a result of the day we gained lots of exciting new contacts, new FT2G members and I even secured AM the opportunity to pitch for a £60,000 tender for a new client.
The AM team welcomed me from the day one and I am so grateful for everything they have taught me in my time with them. The team at AM maybe small but it is packed with great personalities, years of experience and in-depth knowledge of the industry. This experience has made me feel motivated to complete my final year at University and excited for my future career in PR and Marketing.
