Mental Health Awareness Week

This week is Mental Health Awareness week (May 18 to 24) and the theme for 2020 is kindness.

Research has shown that kindness and our mental health are deeply connected. Kindness not only strengthens relationships and develops community, it also deepens solidarity. It is a cornerstone of our individual and collective mental health. Wisdom from every culture across history recognises that kindness is something that all human beings need to experience and practise to be fully alive.

In recognition of the Mental Health Foundation campaign, the Astley Media team have been talking about how they are being kind to themselves as they adapt to the challenges of lockdown.

We thought we would share our experiences to, hopefully, provide some inspiration to others.

CEO, Marc Astley has used his time in lockdown to set up a bird feeding station. For those without a garden you can easily purchase feeders to attach to your window. Marc says that visits from his feathered friends never fail to lift his spirits.

Managing Director, Dan Pritchard suggests taking lots of mini-breaks throughout the day to spend time in the garden or chat with family and friends, he also ensures that a distracting book is ever more than 3 feet away from him!

Account Director, Emma McLeod is practicing yoga which is beneficial for your general wellbeing; helping you to relax, manage stress and anxiety as well as keeping you physically fit. There are some excellent interactive classes available on Amazon Prime, so why not try one at home?

PR and Marketing Executive Leah Watts finds that art helps her enjoy a sense of calm and distraction from the world around. Picking up a paint brush, pen, pencil, sketch pad can help your imagination fly, and even if you’re not an expert, art is a fantastic way to channel emotions.

Account Manager, Elle Taylor suggests breaking up the working day with home workouts at lunchtime. There are lots of options on YouTube and Instagram and even some classes where you can see other participants. Why not sign-up and try something new with a friend?
